Hey Guys, I know this has been discussed a lot before but I'm too tired to search for the topics. I know I can go down to 16's for the winter but what size tire do I need??

hey guys whats a good winter tire, can't seem to find a good review. also, whats the benefit of going down in wheel size? is that assuming you hit an iceberg?
I bought some General Altimax Arctic. And the advantage on going down in size is the price.... 18'' tires are almost twice the price compared to 16''
I was researching alternate tire sizes for cheaper winter tires as well and came across a 15inch alternative also 205/65/15 checked it to all the stock dims of the 18 on my gts and it works out very well not quite as good as the tirerack recommended 205/60/16 but pretty damn close. These tires are common easy and cheap to find. I have a question though regarding steel rims. I understand the bolt pattern on the 08 lancers to be 5x114.3 but im not sure what other specs i need to confirm before buying used 5x114.3 steelies other then width, anyone help me out here?
I don't think 15 will fit !! 16 fits but it's a pretty close fit. So i think 16 is the lowest you can go ....
