hows it going guys? im new here. i am thinking about getting an 09 lancer gts. has and body had any good or bad opinions on this new lancer? aloso, i wanted to know if they are able to handle engine mods well? internal and f/i. right now i own a 2001 civic. that i have modded. but even though i love my civic, i feel like it is out dated. the new lancer really caught my eye. and for the price is pretty sweet too.
you won't go far in a lancer gts unless u turbo it, or engine swap but other than that its well worth the price on what it has and how it looks
yea i didnt think id get much without going f/i. same as my civic. with a complete engine build with out turbo only gains about 50-70hp.
i don't even think a lancer 08/09 can achieve +50 hp from just bolt ons (exhaust, headers, pulley, intake, spark plugs, etc) for now that is
i was talking about my civic. 50-70hp at max, with a fully built engine and standalone with proper tuning.
i know, i'm just saying you won't be able to get much out of lancer performance wise like you did with your civic
i don´t konw what a 2009 GTS Lancer cost, but i think if you mod your engine with a turbo,exhaust,... it will be better to purchase a ralliart or an evo X
sicma, with the current 08/09 lancer market without turbo you are looking at adding 20-30 hp depending on alot of different factors (2.0/2.4, cvt/man, tune, octane rating, etc). No body on here know what will be available in a year, two year, or five years. So I think some people are getting ahead of themselves when they say NEVER!!! Never say never people
i would much rather buy a car to wrench on and feel accomplished with the same results in power, rather than buying a car that someone has already built.
thats true. sorry i keep forgetting that these are new cars that havent had many aftermarket performace parts made yet. ccasion5: thx
Just keep the Lancer OG, I am sure the cats that modded their Lancer has the same mods as everyone here and on other forums. The only real performance is the turbo from RRM and Extreme. Maybe the Injen ses also. No company will do real performance parts for our cars until someone really contacts a company, be without the car for a few months. Face it, unless anyone here has the cash to do it, the Lancer will be all show and no go.
I have an 09 gts with the cvt and i love it. If you're not looking for tons of straight line speed i thinks a great choice. The car handles great stock add a suspension and some stiffening and u can turn like a slot car. Now if you're looking to drag race then i might think about something else... ralliart, evo, wrx, impreza gt? But at the sametime i don't understand why people hate on their own rides because the lancer isn't a racecar from the factory... In all reality its a fun car and with some time and some $ it can be quick, not fast, but quick. Drive it and some others and think about it before u buy. If u get it i think u'll enjoy it.
Keep in mind as well that these after market turbo kits although come with everything a turbo needs does NOT technically come with what your car needs to adapt to your turbo. The flywheel and clutch will be hard pressed to keep up with the new HP, might require new or better motor mounts / bushings, etc etc. Alot of people dont think of these things when they F/I their civics etc and end up ruining other parts of their cars unknowingly. Alot of people on here know better but overall in most cases buying the turbo'd lancer [either RA or EVO] is generally the BEST way to go F/I INCLUDING price point. Cuz once you look at all the mods youd have to do to the Ralliart to get it looking and performing like a RA. Youve probably spent your 10k buffer between the base MSRPs and now your gone and voided the best part about your mitsu which is your warranty. Now, also that being said I am always aggrivated by the lack of power in my 08 GTS especially in the low end. Pulley was the first mod I wanted to do but that was quickly thwarted by the Oil Leak problem so until that is resolved I wont be swapping any UD pulleys. Food For Thought
The stock pulley has the problem as well. RRM's V2 pulley has a stronger sleave then the OEM pulley which will allow it to last longer. I ran the V2 pulley for about 5,000 miles and there was NO wear. The OEM pulley, after around 6,000 miles, had a very prevalent wear. I still think that some people who read about the pulley issue are still a bit confused.
