Thin paint, thin windshield on Evo/RA?

A reviewer on Edmunds wrote that he has had alot of paint chips on his Evo and that he had a chip on the windshield that he tried to fix but caused the crack to expand. He ended up needing a new windshield and replaced it with the thicker one made for the regular lancer.

He felt the paint is too thin on the Evo and the windshiled was too fragile for the sake of making it lighter.

He recommended the clear shield on the front of the car and in front of and behind the rear wheels.

    Has anyone had these problems?

    Thanks.

I'm not sure about the windsheild issue but I've owned both a GTS and now an Evo and I can say with certainty that the paint on both vehicles, and Mitsu's in general, is sub-par to say the least. If you're going to purchase either one of these vehicles I suggest a set of mud flaps before you drive it off the lot and also the 3M clear bra if you can find an installer in your area. Before I got rid of my GTS the side skirts and back fender looked like a Proactive commercial from normal highway driving. I've gotten both for my Evo and they're effective so far as long as you don't drive through any gravel pits or down the railroad tracks.

    Thanks alot for your posts.
i live in an area where there seems to be endless construction going on all the time...alot of gravel, rocks, potholes, etc.
I would be really angry if I drove a new Lancer off the lot and got all kinds of paint chips because the paint isn't as good as it is on other brands.
It's just too bad that more money has to be spent to protect the paint.

    thanks again.
