I have an 09 lancer Gts that came with Dunlop sp 5000 sy All Seasons. I was told tha tthis site has alot of Canadian folks that might have had experiences in the snow w/ these stock tires. I live in Massachusetts where
we have our share of snow & was wondering if anyone had any advice.

    My Advice:

    Get rid of them.

I almost crashed my car last year with those stupid tires and there was barely any snow on the ground.

Then my car sat for a whole month because I couldn't get her out of the laneway because the tires just spun and spun.

They're pretty much useless in any kind of snow. At least thats what I found.

I had the same problem with my stock '08 GTS tires. Not good for any snow. I looked into new winter specific tires but they will run me nearly 1,200 with new wheels. Can't afford that at the moment. Any other ideas? How good are chains for the snow and ice? I never used them before..

Thanks for the info. Has anyone else had the same problem with the stock
GTS tires in the wintertime. Could you get snow tires & put them on the say 16 in.rims made for mitsubishi. I think a smaller tire would grip better
in the snow & get a set of rims that would fit on the ES model.ES comes with 16 wheels & there shouldn't be a problem putting them on the GTS.
    Let me know.

Has anyone else put smaller tires on for the winter??

I had the same problems with the Stock GTS 08 tires...they suck in the winter. I live in NY and they roads arrent alway the best in the winter but we dont get killed with snow. I am currently looking for a smaller set of rims and tires to put on my car just for the winter months.

    tires

its not possible to put smaller wheels in ur gts because the brake pads are too big.
talked to dealer about this and he said you can probly get away with 17's but not 16's.

hi guys its true the stock gts wheel suck in winter time im from the province of quebec we have a lot of snow here. the best for our lancer is gettin a 16 inch rim with good snow tire. i have good years ultra grip ice last winter on my lancer and its the best winter tire at all. just one thing. When you gonna put the winter tire its gonna have a light in the dash that said something wrong its because you need a pressure valve because the rim is not 18 inch and the computer dont see the difference. but its 100$ per valve so its 400$ + the rim + the tire so if you want real good winter tire its 1500$ right there

P.S its not grave if you dont have those valve its not necessary you just have to put into the button info 2 sec and the dash gonna be ok till next time you restar the car.

but do not go with the dunlops in the winter time, they r really bad for winter

Yea dunlops are horrible for winter! (even though i live in Texas) i have had a few runs in Missouri with damn snow and dunlop tires! So yea no no on the dunlops! GO to discount tire (not sure if you have any there :p) ask them for the best solution! IMO.

    AZN_GHETTO,
So you have 17"steelies on your GTS w/ winter tires. If I'm understanding you, that might be the best way to go.
Let me know if I read you right. So, if I don't get the tire pressure sensors
for my wheels, the dashboard will only go off just once everytime you start
your car.. So if I go that way w/ the steelies & snows & no pressure tire sensors, when I put the stock tires back on in the spring, will the car
recognize the sensors & everything should be back to normal.

Any feedback on my last statement..

    Thanks for everyone's input..

yes thats right when you gonna put your stock 18 inch rim its gonna take a few km and the computeur will recognize your rim you dont have to bring back to the dealer. that the good thing.

Yo I am in CT right on the MA line hit me a PM some time for a meet.

And get rid of those... its like running in the snow with bowling shoes... Get blizzacs or h/e you spell it.

    JoGTS,
So you're telling me that when you take off the stock GTS rims/wheels &
put on the winters, does that buzzer go all the time or does it go off after
    you hit the switch once.
Does a smaller rim for winter hurt the alignment of the car at all.

    Let me know..

    Again thanks for everyones input

    Hi Friends,
I'm new in this forum....I live in California, and drive Lancer ES 09. Ive my stock 16'' alloy wheels with tyres, almost new as I only drove around 100miles on them and then replaced them with 18" chromes.
I'm lazy in posting the ads on craigslist....If anyone of you want to buy 16" alloy wheels for winter tyres, please let me know.
