iight i heard that when u shift from any gear into neutral u dont need to press the clutch in. i've done it a couple times and its gone into neutral fine so i think its ok. I'm not talkin bout from a gear to gear or neutral to gear, only like 2nd to neutral or any other gear besides 2nd cuz u dont need to match the rpms. is this ok?

mechanically you can drive a car without using the clutch at all, and not harm anything. So you going from 2nd to neutral is not hurting anything as long as you are not forcing out of gear then if you did that there could be some damage....as long as the rpm's match up you can smoothly get out of gear and not harm anything.

I don't know if that's true but it's better to push the clutch in. I don't think i've really tried it but isn't it harder to put it in neutral, like you have to force it.

no not at all, it slides into neutral just as easy as doing it with the clutch in.

it is better to push the clutch in, but you can you go without the clutch....some racers do without the clutch and if done right can shave some time off and can reduce wear and tear on clutch parts *only if done right*. But for daily driving just stick with the clutch.

just curious, not being an @$$ but how does it reduce time?

the same way CVT shaves time off of a normal automatic?

Which is still slower than the manual pushing in the clutch.....

ive done a few times at our company truck but never in any of my car especially my 08...you keep doing that it will eventually messed up something including your transmission...better do the right procedure of driving manual...

I'm going to have to say you cannot compare a CVT to a normal automatic... The CVT is ALOT slower than a regular automatic. Not only that, but a CVT works with two clutches, so technically a CVT doesn't shift.

Stick to the normal way to drive stick.

Clutchless shifting shaves time off of 1/4 mile times simply because you aren't wasting time pushing in the clutch. If you do it the wrong way, you can royally mess something up.

    RE: shifting to neutral

If you are at a hiogher RPM you can shift to any gear without clutch. If you are in a lower RPM you will have some issues and have to force it or just put the clutch. Most of my stick cars have been that way. I have not broken anything. Just make sure you are at a high enough RPM

sorry i gotta disagree, because the numbers say CVT is faster then normal automatic, and your wrong about CVT having 2 clutches... thats the new auto thats coming out, forgot what it's called Dual Clutch? ne way, the CVT is always changing, hence "Continuously Versatile" i forgot the exact mechanics but it has to do w/ like a wheel that expands and contracts or 2 gears where the distance between them expands and contracts thats why it doesn't ever "shift"....

*edit* just remembered what it was, it's a belt that expands and contracts through a pully system :p... btw, why would there be a clutch if there's no gears? :p

    onto a simular question

i hear that it is possible for some1 2 go from gear to gear without ever using the clutch as long as ur rpms r at a certain point? is it true

i mean iv heard of my friend doing it on his old 240 where the only gear ud ever use the clutch is goin from neutral to 1st but other then that u dont need to engage the clutch when shifting from 1st to 2nd and so fourth, and without without forcing the gears into place, just normal shifting

read second post down.....yes you can drive without the clutch, just along as you dont force it into gear....with the right rpms it should slide into place

you can get into gear (except the first one) without cluth.
On my old mx-3 i've tryed, disengaging the gear is easy, I think it rub a bit so in the long run probably would wear something faster but well.
And to shift I was going to about 3200rpm and let the gaz go and at about 2900-3000 I was simply pushing the stick and was entering like butter (Seems it's more like the synchro or something need to spin certain speed).
But I have to say it's wasn't working all the time, mayB one time out of 4 (I was probably not good enough héhé).
Haven't tryed with the lancer tough.
But unless you want to amaze your friend or if your cluth is almost gone, I don't really see why do this.
