I'm not a tuner nerd so bare with me. A buddy of mine told me that FWD is better than AWD after like 40mph.

Mine and I were talking because I want to know the feasibility on getting an RA or just turbo my Lancer than move up from there. He also said that AWD is a bit heavier than a FWD car.

    Your thoughts...

You just opened a dirty can of worms

this has been an on-going debate for years.... in my experience, off the line, AWD is more efficient.. the word "better" i think is not the best to use... the problem is that later on in the higher MPHs, the AWD suffers because of the transfer loss and FWD tend to be a bit faster, but not by much... at the last track meet we had both boosted awd and fwd "cars" (brand edited to prevent a tragedy) and the fwd cars were doing not so good R/T and 60' (traction) but decently good E/T and trap speeds... the awds were having amazing r/t and 60' but fairly good E/Ts and trap speeds...

thats for the drag strip at least.. if you wanna get into track, autoX and rally, then AWD hands down... you see what im saying?

At the end is up to the driver's purpose and preference.....

Moderator note to all... please keep this topic clean and without drama/bashing please... ive seen this topic go wild in other forums and that will not be accepted here... thanx :)

ok...so what do the abbreviations mean?

I can only assume that if I add a turbo then my off the line will be fine. I don't intend on rally or racing or any of that stuff. i'm just a typical guy and want my car to go faster for shi*s and giggles. a man needs a hobby...lol...

and even if i do race its usually after i'm moving...for some reason. my car just feels weak...given that it is...lol

e/t = quarter mile elapsed time
    r/t = reaction time
60' = basically how much time you take to go the first 60' of the strip... usually a good 60' is anything under 1.8 i would say...

Call and talk to Rob about it. He isn't very impressed with the turbo setup on the Evo and RA with AWD.

He says he has a FWD OZ Lancer with 250 whp that can school the Evo X all day long.

Me on the other hand ... I not a drag guy sorry.. Love to watch my friends do it. but for me what gives me sh*&s and giggles is blazin around a driver side corner at 100 mph, straight through an 'S' , then a right hand u-turn.. or RALLY .. man thats my dream i can say i have never been in a rally race and never had a car that could take the abuse to even get out there and try.. AWD FTW!!

but saying that i will say this, " Man i love being a turtle" LMAO............ (FWD CVT GTS)

+1 agree and well said (you beat me to it, ek ) on the strip, awd=traction, fwd=traction loss. at least thats my experience with it, then came along an upgraded lsd!!!!

If FWD was better in all conditions AWD wouldn't exist.

If AWD was inferior to FWD the Lancer Evolution would never have been AWD.

Heres a simple way to explain it, AWD is better in just about everything including from a dig, auto x etc, the only advantage fwd has is from a roll because from any type of roll, doesnt have to be 40mph, fwd > awd, but for just about everything else, fwd is better
