i know a lil bit about this subject but, i'm not certin about what i want to do. i want to buy the 1in drop springs from works but every one is telling me to wait for coil overs. what's the difference. good, bad, everything.

Colivers are the best there is, no question about it.

If you have a grand to spend, wait for the coilovers.

    $400 coilovers < $150 springs < $400 springs < $1500 coilovers < $3000 coilovers

Sub, you totally confused him now. Look at what you did.

    Colivers $3000 > Colivers $1500

    Colivers $1500 > Springs $400

A better way of doing it.

You are just breaking down a stream lined version of what I put. Plus I havent seen him say he is confused. Where are you coming up with this?

I would say that it all depends on the application...

Like suba said.. if you have > $1000 wait for the coilovers.... now, they are that expensive for a reason.. sometimes having a grad to spend, doesnt mean that you should necessarily get the coilovers... unless you know about the coilover and adjust the camber and the spring rate. or have a friend that can do it (or pay someone to do it) just go with the springs... thats if you are just looking to lower the car, not the performance....

well by getting springs i was hoping to lower the center of gravity which equals tighter corners at higher speeds. but , with coil overs you get the ability to adjust to how you need them...right?

(i was probably gunna get the sway bar too)

you should also be hoping to not kill yourself while cornering at higher speed.... ;)

yeah I prefer the coilovers better than lowering springs...i know they might expensive, but i like the way it can be adjusted and all

another option is a decent set of springs and some adjustable shocks.. have used the KYB AGX's before and they were pretty dam good. Its a cheaper option to coilovers and you have more choice when it comes to the stiffness of the springs. You have the shock adjustment like coilovers but you loose the camber and height adjustment.

Not sure what i'll go for this time if both options are available. Probably go the coilovers because i will need camber adjust this time and adding camber kits later is a pain.

well a camber kit is for a serious drop, right? i'll be goin bout an inch, so... no need?

Just wanted to chime in on Coilovers. People throw that word around a lot on forums and automatically assume that a coilover setup is better than standard struts with upgraded springs. In our experience this just isn't true. There are plenty of cheap coilovers that are much worse than upgraded springs, they rattle, have incorrect valving for the weight of the car, are too stiff etc... There are also really nice coilovers that work great provided you drive the car on the track a lot. We sell Ohlins coilovers here at WORKS (sorry none for the Lancer right now), and they are the best in the industry. Light weight aluminum bodies, excellent build quality, good warranty, just great all around, however if you're not planning on going to the track they are a waste of money. Our lowering springs aren't just for show, they are progressive rate, designed to work with the stock shocks. They ride amazing, but will still greatly improve the handling of the car. Again, there are lowering springs out there that are cheap and poor quality as well.

So some of it is a judgement call, how much you want to pay etc.. But a lot of it should be determined by what type of driving you do. If your car is a 100% street car I would recommend getting lowering springs on the stock struts, or maybe upgrading to adjustable style shocks like someone mentioned above. But I wouldn't get too caught up in the Coilover hype, unless it is really important to you to be able to tell people you have coilovers on your car, or maybe you are showing it and really like the aesthetic, coilovers are a bit overkill and may just make the car ride like crap on the street, which is where your driving it.

    Just my two cents

ummm no not really... if you want to drive on the track you'll want an adjustable camber kit so you can well... adjust it.

Wish KYB would hurry up and bring out some AGX's for the CJ. Loved those babies on my CE.
