I read this on the Project Lancer forum and wanted to see what you guys think. http://z3.invisionfree.com/2008_Lancers ... owtopic=94 One of the guys there did it and said it works. Wanted to get more ppls opinion before I do something like this.
The ideal idea of an aftermarket intake is to provide more air, but most important to provide colder air... colder air helps the combustion, therefore the HP gain... thats the same idea with the intercooler in a turbo car, cools down the air thats going thru the intake which is taken basically right next to the header.... the aftermarket intakes available for our cars are doing the same thing, are allowing more air, but they are right next to the header... i think its like running in circles... i saw that someone in projectlancer.net used the bottom of a plastic trash can to isolate the filter and are using a K&N filter, and they left the duct that it connects to the front bumper that actually helps to pull in colder air... i think it was a great functional idea i removed the tubing as well (like the thread starter) again, i did not notice a power gain (its sucking way hotter air than stock) but it sounds cool... i did it the night of the florida meet... autobot did it as well... at first i felt a lil bit more power, but im sure after the ECU registered the extra amount of air, it regulated it back to normal and we are back at the start....
so does it sound like the RRM SRI? I really like that sound cause the stock intake sounds REALLY weak. Also, are there anyone negative effects by doing this? Does the hot air ruin anything?
well if you just want the sound, i think the RRM sounds louder... we were comparing it with the RRM one that LancerGTS has and i think he is louder, but his is more exposed you know, ours is just a lil whole in the filter box eliminating the silencer...
^ OH ok...I dont want to loose any more horsepower. Don't really have much to give...lol...what about long term effects of the SRI?
I kind of did the same thing.. But I left the Silencer on going to the front of the car and just took of the rubber elbow that connects the two part to one another (airbox to silencer)... Then cut out some plastic right in front of the silencer to have more air come through.. So now I'm able to get the sound plus being able to suck more air plus have a ram air effect..
