    hey

ive been told alot of cars have to have the intakes installed differently nowadays, some are supposed to have the hose branch off before the o2 sensor, some after?? does this make sense?
a buddy told me if they do it wrong, exactly what you just said would happen. might wanna check that out maybe. just a thought.

I have the honor of being the first Road Race customer to have this issue come so drastic. I heard that they may actually be using Split Second's setup for my car on future Piggy releases for the Cali version of the Piggy.

It's been awhile since I met up with Mark @ Split Second, but he explained it to me like this: the P0171 leen code comes from the car having to actually leen the fuel because there's TOO much fuel. When the car has to cut back fuel and it reaches a point that it's cutting more than the ECU says it should have to, it throws the CEL.

Sounds strange, but that's how I remember him explaining it to me. If you think about it, by adding a CAI (or SRI), you're adding more air to your engine. The more air you can force in, the more gas can go in. If you run the car hard, the ECU will compensate to keep the air/fuel mix correct. If you suddenly drive the speed limit or under again, the car is "re-adjusting" to this, and will have to cut back on the fuel mix. If it has to cut back a lot, it will throw the leen code until the ECU gets it right.

Do you have a PZEV (California) emissions Lancer?

Some states have the lower emission setup on the Lancer, dropping it by 10 HP. The reason I ask is a few months after getting my car I put on the RRM SRI. Everything was fine, but I later threw on the piggy. My car was pulling that code all day long. I got my car in Cali, and I think that the ECU is what helps throw that P0171 code. After several weeks of messing with it and talking with Road Race, they finally sent me to Split Second (the guys who manufacture the piggy for Road Race). Mark and his guys hooked up a wideband sensor and a laptop to my car and drove around for awhile. They managed to tune it back and no problems with the check engine light since.

Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to throw all that out there in case anyone else needs it, too :)

yes sir yes sir. Thats why u need that piggy back with not just RRM but any intake that has a bigger inlet from start to finish i.e.-RRM's

There is nothing wrong with RRM's intake by no means, its just that the piggy back lets you tune it. To get more fuel in there to compensate for the increase of air.

Your lucky you could have detonated that engine. REMEMBER I said COULD HAVE. ALSO im not knocking RRM, just do your homework and ask lots of questions when moding ur ride. Its ur responsibility!

phew- had to cover my butt! LOL!
