Gonna be installing Hawk HPS Ferro-Carbon pads and new rotors this weekend. For those of you who have changed your own pads/rotors, do you always burnish (bed-in) the pads after installing? My car is for everyday street use, not racing so do I really need to burnish? Also, I live in a dense city so can't exactly be pulling 40 mph to 5 mph stops 4-5 times through city blocks. I could drive out to a "country road" and burnish there but i'd have already used the brakes a lot getting there so would it matter by then?
I would make a couple trips around the block lightly riding the brakes. After that, you can just brake late at red lights...just to get a couple heat cycles through them.
Its probably just the brakes themselves. If you got the cheapo brakes that's most likely why. I got the posi quiet brakes from rrm. Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk
also if they squeak a lot you can try using brake grease on all the metal to metal contact points. just make sure you don't put any on the rotor/pad interface. oh and yes burnishing your breaks tends to reduce noise too at least for 2 weeks or so then they will need to be done again for full effect see: http://www.essexparts.com/learning-center/cat/brake-pads/post/Bed-in
Interesting. Yes, I bought the cheapest ones. As long as they keep slowing me down I'm fine with them. Lol.
