Never heard of it either. Sounds like an exhaust issue. Go to dealer and see if they know what should be done. Don't let them diagnose it or they will charge you to do that. Just ask them how to fix the code.

according to the government, gas vapors are just as harmful as the exhaust fumes coming out of your car. So car companies are required to devise a system that makes it so the gasoline systems on a vehicle are sealed. There would be no way of know for sure that a system is sealed unless there was a test for it. Every car company has to be able to test that sealed system while you are driving that car. Each do it in a different way. GM likes to take the vacuum from your engine and then use it to pull a vacuum on your gas tank and lines. then seal that system off and using a sensor watch and see if the vacuum goes away. That is great for checking to see if the lines are sealed but what about letting the system vent on a hot day? Charcoal. Charcoal absorbs hydrocarbons that are released by gasoline vapors. I would say that 99% of all cars after 1996 have a charcoal canister. When the vehicle needs to vent vapors to atmosphere they pass through the charcoal canister effectively filtering the hydrocarbons. The systems have several different variations and tests. What p0441 was checking was the sealing capabilites of the system. any questions?

kinda late on this but my friends eclipse had the same code because, someone stole his gas cap in attempt to steal the gas underneath it, long story short he bought a new gas cap and put it on, reset the computer and good as new
